Lorraine

• Lorraine is my grandma's first name, she's always been there for me and helps me out whenever I need it.  It's a beautiful name and it ages well.
• Lorraine is a French city. Joan of arc was called the maid of Lorraine. It is also a branch of laurel that used to be put around victors. Lorraine is a great name because it is in baby books and your child will be able to look up what their name means, but uncommon enough for your child to be able to create their own personality out of it!

Lorraine is a region in France. It became used as a girls' name probably in honor of the 15th century St. Joan of Arc who was also known as The Maid of Lorraine. Lorraine's popularity in the USA spiked in the early 1920s and 1930s, which coincides with when St. Joan was canonized (1920). Its popularity is also probably due to the fact that it sounds like other names in use, like Laura and Laurie.
