Lourdes

Note about Soledad: Soledad comes from the Spanish word meaning "solitude." It is used in Spanish-speaking countries in honor of Maria de Soledad ("Mary of Solitude"), one of the many appellations of the Virgin Mary. The word sol in Spanish means "sun," but soledad has no relation to it.

Lourdes is the name of a town in France where St. Bernadette Soubirot reported seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1856. The place has since become a major Catholic pilgrimage site, and Lourdes is often given as a name to Catholic girls in honor of it.
