Marley is an English surname from two different place names. The second element in both names is leah meaning "clearing; wood; meadow; field." The first element can either come from the Old English moere meaning "boundary" or mearth meaning pine marten (animal related to weasels). It is currently far more common for girls than boys in the USA.
