McCall

My name is McCall. I've never seen a site with anyone having that as a first name, and female into the bargain. Almost everyone I meet says that it's a neat and unusual name. Alas, I was named after the Betsy McCall paper doll that my mom and her sister used to fight over. It's origin is Scots/Irish and is derived from Mac Cathmaol (I think) and means (son of) "Mighty Battle Cheiftain".

Mac Call/McCall is an anglicized form of many different Irish and Scottish surnames. It can come from the Irish Mac Cathmhaiol meaning "battle chief," or derive from the first name Cathal, meaning "battle-rule." It is sometimes also an anglicization of Mac Céil, meaning "son of the companion."
