Meredith

The name Meredith comes from the Welsh Meredydd /meh RED ith*/ (*the "ith" sounding like "with" or "this", not like "thin" or "through.") The first part of the name is uncertain, it may mean "greatness" but the second part stems from a word meaning "lord." It was originally a masculine name, and wasn't used for girls until the 20th century. In Wales it is still predominantly a boys' name.
