Minerva
- Minerva is the name of a Mormon artist whose paintings I've admired since a child; Minerva Teichert (1888 – 1976). It's also the name of Zelda Fitzgerald's mother. I like Mina as a nickname for Minerva (as in Mina Loy, the poet).
- Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom.
- wonderful sound and naming my daughter after the Goddess of Wisdom had a certain appeal!
In Roman mythology, Minerva was the virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, crafts, and the inventor of music. Her name may be derived from the Latin word mens meaning "intellect," but is more likely of Etruscan origin.
