Nathan
- It's common, but I feel like it's a good, solid, classy name - much more so than Nathaniel, which I find a little whiny. It's just so likeable to me. I don't think I've ever met a Nathan I didn't like.
- I've loved this name ever since I read a book with the lead character named Nathaniel and called Nate. Strong, masculine name with (once again!) lots of history, dating back to the Bible.
- "Nate" is a cute nickname. Another classic with a vaguely Yankee ring.
- Nathan Christopher: very manly and boyish at the same time...The name of a comic book charachter, "Cable"...we chose to use this for our first son, dh is Christopher, and frame a copy of the comic that was issued the month of his birth.
English form of the Hebrew Natan, Nathan means "he [God] gave" or "he will give." Nathan was the name of a number of different figures in the Bible. It wasn't used as a given name until after the Protestant Reformation in Europe.
