Ned
- I'm not sure what I like it short for best-- Edmund, Edric, Theodore etc., but I love Ned. It's short, to the point, and classic.
- I love the name Ned. It fits everyone. It's an all around masculine name without being too overblown. It's like Bob or Bill only much less common and with more style.
- A good strong name, which would be very cute on a four year old in overalls and boots, but also very cute (in an entirely different way!) on a twenty eight year old in jeans and tee-shirt or a thirty five year old in an armani suit.
Ned started out as a diminutive form of names beginning with Ed, such as Edward and Edmund. Later it became used as a short form of Theodore as well (Ted -> Ned). In the late middle ages, many pet forms of names began with N (such as Nan for Ann, Nell for Ellen/Helen, Noll for Oliver etc.), probably as a contraction of the term of endearment "mine __" (mine Ed = Ned, Mine Ann = Nan)
