Niamh
This is my religious name (which I go by). I've seen it pronounced both "neev" and "nee-av". I pronounce it like the latter. I love this name because I live in the United States and I have yet to meet anyone in person with my name (I've met a few Niamh's online though, usually from Ireland). Niamh is the name of an Irish goddess, which gives it a mythical feel to it. Plus, when others have a hard time pronouncing it, I can give them a pet form of it that they can use that is more familiar to them: Neve, which I always follow with "...like Neve Campbell, the actress".
- (Neve) Means "BRIGHT" in Irish. This is such a beautiful and underused name.
- You won't have to worry about your daughter sharing her name with classmates. It means great.
Niamh is an Irish Gaelic name meaning "shining; radiant; luster." It is pronounced either NEEV or NEE-uv. It's also the name of my cat! It's a fairly common name in Ireland.
