Noel

Noel, as a boys' name, is usually pronounced like /NOLE/ (rhymes with 'toll'). As a girls' name, it is more usually spelled Noelle, but sometimes not. In these cases, it is almost always pronounced /no ELL/. It comes from the French Noël, which is the word for "Christmas." Noelle is the feminine adjectival form. In medieval England, it was often given to children born on Christmas day, though now it is not limited to that.
