Pilar

(puh-LAR or pee-LAR) The Spanish word for 'pillar,' this is a reference to the Virgin Mary as the pillar of the Church. Also sometimes used for boys, this is an unusual and beautiful name, and due to the stressed second syllable it's a good alternative for tired middle names like Renee, Marie and Nicole. Right now I am in love with the combination Mattea Pilar.

In Spanish, Pilar means "pillar." It is a reference to Marķa del Pilar (Mary of the Pillar), a title based on a vision St. James the Greater had of the Virgin Mary atop a pillar.
