Priscilla
- OK, I'll admit it's old-fashioned, but I can definitely see it coming back into style. This has become a favorite lately, especially because I came up with the nickname of Priya. Priya (PREE-yah) means "beloved" in Hindu and sounds very modern and pretty. In the King James Version of the Bible, the Priscilla of the Bible (wife to Aquila, whom Paul stayed with) was called Prisca and I think that would make a cute nickname too. I have a friend who also shares my affection for this name and has come up with the nickname Price. Another nickname I have found is Piri, and yet another is the Russian Piroshka. So see? She doesn't have to be called Prissy if you think that's a bad nickname.
- It's forever associated with Priscilla Presley, but this name has a sassy, yet formal sound to it.
Priscilla is a diminutive of Prisca, a feminine form of the Roman name Priscus. This comes from a Latin word meaning "ancient."
