Remus is a Roman name, the mythological brother of Romulus, the founder of Rome. Nobody is sure what exactly it means. Americans may associate this name with Uncle Remus, a fictional African American slave who is the narrator of a body of tales. Americans may more associate this with the Disney movie made based on these fables called "Song of the South" which remains a cult favorite and is used as an example of mainstream racism and segregation.
The younger generation, however, probably associates this name with Remus Lupin, the kindly werewolf professor in the Harry Potter series.
