Now that lots of celebrities are naming their babies Roman, it's going to get more and more popular. Rome is an unusual and lovely variant. A nice choice for Catholic families or families of Italian-American descent, or even those who just love Italy and her capitol city.
Rome is the English name for the capitol city of Italy, called Roma in Italian. The word "rome" may come from the name Romulus, the legendary founder of the city. It may also be an older Etruscan word meaning "hard," or from an even older root denoting a city on a river.
