Roniya
(also Ronia/Ronya/Ronja) - this is a Hebrew name meaning "joyful song". Roni on its own is quite popular for girls in Israel, but I prefer this longer, more elegant form. Ronja is pronounced the same as Roniya, but a Scandinavian spelling. This name was used in a book by Swedish author Lindgren (Ronia in the English version) and even though she thought she had invented the name it existed long before the release of her book. Ronya is a Russian short form of Veronica and was also the name of the main character in the book "The Candlestick and the Cross" which is set in Russia.
