Stella


The name Stella was first coined by poet Sir Philip Sidney (1554-1586) for his sonnet cycle "Astrophel and Stella." It is the Latin word for "star." It never became popular as a first name in the USA until the Victorian era, where it peaked in popularity in 1880s. It's currently coming back into fashion, at #118 of the top 7000 as of 2010.
