Tara

Tara is an anglicization of the Irish name Teamhair. This ancient Irish name probably derives from an Old Irish word meaning "eminence." In Irish mythology, Teamhair was a woman who gave her name to the Hill of Tara, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. Because of this, the name Tara has been associated with the word "hill." Since the name Teamhair sounds a bit like "tor," it has been confused with that word as well, meaning "a high craggy hill." Tor comes from the Old English word torr, whose roots also give us the modern English word tower." Tara is most popular in the USA and Canada, where it took off after the film Gone With the Wind came out, where Tara was the name of the plantation. In Ireland, it was sporadically used from the 1800s on, where it was mostly a boy's name.
