Taran
The hero from The Prydain Chronicles. I love the fact that despite the fact that it's short, it sounds like a long, complete name, and sounds very Welsh (like all the other names in the series).
Taran is a character from Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain. Most of his characters have names based on Welsh. Given this, Taran is likely based on taran, a Celtic word for "thunder." A form of this name, Taranis, was derived from this word-- Taranis was a Celtic god of thunder, worshipped mainly in Gaul. There was a 7th century Pictish king known as Taran son of Ainftech whose name was also derived from this god name.
