Tarquin
- I've never been a huge fan of Quinn or any other names that have "quin" in them, but Tarquin is the exception to that rule. It's taken from the Roman surname Tarquinnius which, let's all admit, on a child would be outrageous, but somehow I think Tarquin would be rather dashing. It's unique enough to make a boy stand out, but it's a legitimate name dating back to ancient times and even having been used by Shakespeare. I'd love to meet a young Tarquin.
- From the Roman Tarquinius, the meaning of which is lost. This was the name of two early kings of Rome, not to mention the hero of the more recent Anne Rice novel Blackwood Farm. This hero is known as Quinn, which would make a good nickname.
Tarquin comes from Tarquinius, Latin for someone who came from the Etruscan city of Tarquinii.
