Veronica
- I love this name for its depth and history. It has a sophistication about it, as well as a hint of the exotic, yet it is familiar and used in many cultures. I love its meaning, "bringing victory," as well as the created meaning ascribed later to it, "true image." My great-aunt was named Bernice, and Bernice and Veronica are both forms of the same original name, Pherenike, so I want to use it to honor her memory.
- a strong well name for a child. not very common like most names.
- I've always loved this name. It evokes the image of a gorgeous, determined, cunning woman. She'd make all the boys drool
Veronica comes from Greek "Berenice" meaning, most likely "victory bringer." However, from early times it was associated with the Latin phrase vera icon meaning "true image." It got this association from the legend that St. Veronica wiped the face of Jesus as he struggled with the cross on the way to Golgotha. The image of his face imprinted on the towel she gave him (sometimes it's said to be her veil or kerchief). For this reason, St. Veronica is the patron of both laundry workers and photographers.
