Waverly
- In the book The Princess Bride, Westley and Buttercup name their daughter Waverly. I would love to name my daughter after a character of The Princess Bride but Buttercup is a little too rich for my blood but Waverly is soft, sweet, and beautiful.
- (WAVE-er-lee) In The Princess Bride's "sequeal" Buttercup's Baby, Westley and Buttercup named their girl Waverly. It's romantic and rolls off your tongue, and there just aren't too many "W" names.
- sounds rich and sophisticated like Avery, Peyton, and Hillary. And, just like the crackers, it's a step above the saltines.
- Waverly Season: this combo was recommended to me from a baby naming board and i thought it was a gorgeous name. the nickname could be Eve!
This was originally a surname coming from an English place name whose meaning is obscure. The first element may come from an old Germanic word meaning "brushwood." The second, -ley comes from the Old English meaning "clearing; meadow; field." There is a female character named Waverly in Amy Tan's novel The Joy Luck club
