William
- Probably my #1 favorite for a boy. This is my grandfather's middle name. I like Will and Liam for nicknames.
- Classic, handsome, strong, elegant in a manly way
- because it is so noble-sounding.
- A classic with good nicknames.
- Is my father's name.
- I love this name and even though it is common it is a classic that should be used a lot.
- My father's name....I love William, Will, Billy. It's just a great name.
- William Jason; my paternal great great grandfather's name; the husband of Aurain Jane mentioned above. The name hasn't been used in my family since then, so I'd like to put it back in use. Nicknames possible include Will, Liam, or go by Jason, doesn't matter to me, depends on the last name and hubby's preference.
- William Nathaniel: (Nathaniel) William is the name of my boyfriend, and I also really like the name because it's ancient and just very masculine, but still gentle and refined, sounding. Nathaniel is my second favorite boy name of all time (next to Elliot). It's the name of one of my very favorite authors of all time, Nathaniel Hawthorne. I love that association, and I just love how stately and proper it sounds, without being prissy at all. I would call this child Nathaniel because I prefer it to William by far, and my boyfriend doesn't really like his name all that much (he goes by Bill), and so he doesn't want his son to be called William (which works out well for me!). Additionally, I do not plan on using the nick names Nathan or Nate. I MUCH prefer just Nathaniel. (I really hate Nathan also.)
William is the English form of the Germanic name Wilhelm, which comes from elements meaning "will; desire" and "helmet; protection." Baby name books often take this one step farther and give its implied meaning as "resolute protector."
