The Zia Pueblo pottery motif is a sun with four groups of four lines coming out of it at each compass point. It represents the four directions and the repetition of life on earth. This symbol is in the center of the flag of New Mexico. It was named for Zia Pueblo, the place in New Mexico where the symbol was first used on pottery.
