Zelda
- It's Yiddish! I think it means "lucky." I pronounce with a bit of lisp, so it comes out more like "Selda," which takes away a bit of its hard edge, and I think it would make a wonderful name for a girl, and very unique.
- Contrary to popular belief, my cat was not named after the video game character but after the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is the short form of Grizelda, which means something like 'gray battle maiden'.
- It was always the only video game I ever liked, and I loved the story behind the video game, Zelda is the princess
Spelled Zelde, this is a Yiddish name from an old Germanic root for "happiness; good fortune" (the same as the male name Zelig). The Zelda spelling is a 19th century American coinage, possibly a short form of Griselda.
