Zora
- Croatian, meaning quite literally the dawn
- (pronounced SSOH-rah): It always makes me freak when I read about a new name book that says: 'Includes Names from Aaron to Zoe". There IS another (beatiful) name that goes beyond that: Zora! It comes from Slowenia or Croatia meaning "Dawn". I imagine a really active, honest and independent girl with wild, red hair, maybe because of the German book called "Die rote Zora" (the red Zora).
Zora comes from a Slavic root word meaning 'dawn.' In the USA, it has literary overtones, it's most famous bearer being the African-American author Zora Neale Hurston.
