I look like a monkey, and I like to fling pee
Ok, it doesnt’ make much sense, but it rhymes, OK?
I have officially entered my mid-30s.
What am I going to do about it? Well, possibly get dressed. Also, I think I’ll list my favorite albums of 2006.
- Radio 4, Enemies Like This
This album is awesome. I can’t say enough good things about it, especially since I didn’t really like their last one. This album is a return to their earlier style, only it’s not just a bland re-hashing–it’s a little more complicated and just, well, awesome. I am commanding you to go buy this album if you haven’t already. - The Editors, The Back Room
This is dancey mope-rock in that British Gang-of-four-Ripoff vein. However, it’s catchy, done well, and has an edge. - Forward, Russia! Give Me a Wall
Quirky, a little artsy, on the punker edge of the “dance-punk” continuum. - Beck, The Information
Beck’s released albums ranging from singer-songwritery, bluesy, R&B-inspired, and everything in between. It appears that he’s finally settled on a style all his own– a happy conglomerate of everything, and it works. - Arctic Monkeys, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
I didn’t want to like this album because of all the hype. However, it’s really fun, but not vacant. - Matmos, The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast
This one is more melodic and dancey than their previous albums… however, it’s awesome. I think these dudes can do anything. - TV on the Radio, Return to Cookie Mountain
Truthfully, I liked their first album better. However, this one is beautiful and laid-back, but with TVotR’s same sense of funky experimentation. Note: It was #3 on NPR listeners’ top 10 list, alongside low-key slow brainiacs as Joanna Newsom and Regina Spektor. - Gnarls Barkley, St. Elsewhere
This album is so freaking fun, it could make most comotose people dance.
Honorable mentions (basically I’m too lazy to make up any more bullshit-witty remarks to say):
- Lupe Fiasco, Food & Liquor
- Clipse, Hell Hath No Fury
- The Strokes, First Impressions of Earth
- Hot Chip, The Warning
