Ada
- Old and simple and true...like Cora or Alice.... This was the name of Byron's daughter, but she became a scientist rather than a poet, and she invented what is considered to be the first computer program!
- I saw this was already on your list, but I thought I would add why I love this name. Ada is the name of Lady Ada Lovelace the daughter of the poet Byron. Ada's mother did not want her to follow in her father's footsteps and be a writer so she had her daughter educated in the maths and sciences. Ada became an accomplished mathematician. (She also loved poetry and it is said she brought poetry to her mathematics) In the 1830's Ada Lovelace was first introduced to Babbage and his "difference engine" (the first computer design). Although Babbage was never able to build a working model, due to the inadequacies of the manufacturing techniques of the time, Ada wrote several "programs" that could be run on this machine, thus making her the first computer programmer. I think Ada is a wonderful name for a girl today, what a woman to hold as a hero for a young woman today, a mathematician, a scientist, a poetic heart and the first computer programmer!!
- I like the name Ada because it was my great grandmother's name. It is unusual but somewhat trendy w/ the popularity of older names now.
