Alice
- this is my daughter's middle name and a family name from way back in Ireland and England. I like how the name sounds so old fashioned.
- This name sounds sweet, but because of the drug-references (such as the books Alice in Wonderland and Go Ask Alice, and the song "Go Ask Alice) it still has an interesting and rebellious side to it.
- When Roz on Frasier named her baby Alice, I thought, "The poor child." But then I thought about it and it really grew on me. It has that Wonderland feel to it, simple and old yet strangely novel.
- My great-gran's name. I have her diary from when she was 17 so I feel a special affinity towards her. I like the idea of a name from her generation as there is a good chance that they are coming back in fashion. A trick would be to choose a name that will be fashionable a generation later than one's child, giving her permanent youth!
- Alice has spunk and strnegth and beauty and smarts. That's why I like it- you can't go wrong with Alice.
- Old fashioned but pretty.
Alice is an old French version of the Germanic name Adelheidis, which comes from elements meaning "noble" and "type; sort." It's probably Alice in Wonderland that gives this name a certain odd rebelliousness so that it was taken up by band names such as Alice in Chains, Herricane Alice, and of course, Alice Cooper.
