Cedric

• Whenever I think of this name I picture a very wise and handsome older man and those usually make the best characters in a novel. It also sounds good for a kid and even though it's unusual it's not the type to be made fun of. Plus if you named someone this it could be in loving memory of the great Cedric Diggory who died in glory during Harry Potter's fourth year.(Potter freak sorry hehe)
• Sounds ancient and mysterious without being too weird  
• (SEED-rick) - A name with thousands of years of history.  Brings to mind a great Celtic battle-chief.  
• the first time I heard this name was the basketball player Cedric Ceballos. I immediately fell in love with it. It is cute, but very classy sounding.

There is some debate about the meaning of the name Cedric, some think it comes from Cerdic, and was the result of a copying error in Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe where it first appeared in print. This may be, because Cerdic was a legendary Saxon who founded Wessex in England. However, it may also be a form of the Welsh name Cedrych.
