Jasper

Although "jasper" is a gemstone, it has no connection to the name Jasper. As a name, Jasper has been found as far back as the Middle Ages, where it was assigned to one of the 3 Magi who visited the baby Jesus in the Bible (the names being Caspar (the Dutch form of Jasper), Melchior, and Balthazar). The name most likely comes from a Persian word meaning "treasurer."
