its pronounced Ron-ya. Its quite popular in some European countries. Astrid Lindgren used the name for the main character in one of her books. It probably is a Russian pet form of Veronica and means "bringing victory". There are several nicknames you could use for it, for example Roni (pronounced like Ronny/Ronnie) or Rory.
