Severin
This is a rather old fashioned French boy's name. In France these days, you find a few girls called Severine, but almost no boys with the masculine version of the name I first saw this name on a list that my French husband sent to me while he was away working in West Africa. He was on the lookout for possible names for our son and found that many Africans in the ex-french colonies have kept lots of the old first names that are totally gone in France. I love it because of the medival tone of the name, the fact that the Latin root of it means "serious or severe" and the fact that it's unusual.
