Sci- Fi Names

What shall you name your baby nerd? Tired of ordinary, run-of-the-mill names? Maybe you'd like to find a sci-fi themed name for your yet-unnamed geekling, dog or gerbil. Do you want your little nerdlet to stand out from the rest? Perhaps you've been looking in the wrong places. Science Fiction has long been a goldmine for unusual, unique, and creative names. If you can truly picture yourself yelling "Servalan!, Leela! Time for dinner!" or "Did you finish your homework yet, Garak?" then look no further! Many of these names are already catching on. For example, in 1998, there were 27 baby girls in the USA named Jadzia, and 80 baby Rykers.

At any rate, this is a list of characters from a number of Sci-Fi movies, books and television shows. Let's face it, nerds are here to stay...embrace your geeky heritage and inflict it on your children!

Note: there are way more male names than female names on these lists. Sci-fi has always been a male-dominated genre. Of all of the series' listed, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is the most female-friendly, with 288 male named characters and 108 female named characters. Worst off is Dr. Who, with 1133 male characters and 247 female characters (Doctors 1-8, Doctors 9 & 10 are remedying this!).

DISCLAIMER: I know that these lists probably contain tons of inaccuracies. These pages are meant for entertainment purposes only! Please don't send me any more nasty e-mails saying things like "Briggs actually appeared in 2 episodes, you only have him down in one" etc. Unless there is something SERIOUSLY inaccurate, I don't really want to hear about it. Sorry! Please note: Even though I have seen many of the episodes and movies I've collected names from, I don't remember many of the actual characters. Also, there are several television shows I've never actually seen a single episode of, and a few books I've never so muched as cracked open. For minor characters, I looked them up on various websites and grouped them by sex based on what I thought was the sex of the actor who played him/her. If the actor had an ambigendrous name (like, say, Robin), then I used my best guess. I know there are probably more than a few inaccuracies. I also know that many of these are aliens who don't necessarily have a gender. Go easy on me!
