Anne
- if my son was a girl he would have had Anne as a middle name. I love this name mostly because of the association with Anne of Green Gables. How could anyone not like the lead character!
- a special place in my heart for Anne Shirley (read the book Anne of Green Gables) - thus I will never spell it without an "e". To me, this name suggests an honest and strong character, and a good friend (hmmm, think that opinion is influenced by the character Anne Shirley??) It is also the middle name of my husband's grandma, mom, and sister.
- because it was my great-grandmothers name, and I absolutely LOVED Anne of Green Gables, the book, by L M Montgomery. It has also been passed down from my family.
- simple, refined
- Anne October: I'm another person who ever since I read Anne of Green Gables (in 5th grade) vowed someday to name my daughter "Ann with an 'e'". October gets a lot of strange looks from people, but here in Wisconsin, it is the most beautiful month of the year (and also my birth month).
Anne is the French form of Anna, though this spelling is used in English as well. A well-known character with the name is L.M. Montgomery's Anne Shirley, the protagonist of the Anne of Green Gables series. A plucky red-haired orphan, she has this to say about her name:
"But if you're going to call me Anne,
would you please be sure to spell it with an 'e'?
...Print out A-N-N, it looks absolutely dreadful, but Anne with an 'e' is quite distinguished. "
