Anne

Anne is the French form of Anna, though this spelling is used in English as well. A well-known character with the name is L.M. Montgomery's Anne Shirley, the protagonist of the Anne of Green Gables series. A plucky red-haired orphan, she has this to say about her name:

"But if you're going to call me Anne, would you please be sure to spell it with an 'e'? ...Print out A-N-N, it looks absolutely dreadful, but Anne with an 'e' is quite distinguished. "
