Amber

Name Nerds main

FOR REAL: taken from the English vocabulary word "amber," meaning a yellowish gem made from fossilized tree resin, or the color of that gem. It was first used as a name in the 19th century along with other gem names that became fashionable, such as Pearl and Ruby. However, it wasn't until the best selling novel of the 1940s, Forever Amber was published that Amber became popular as a name. This romance was written by American author Kathleen Winsor and was banned in several states due to explicit content. It was also made into a movie directed by Otto Preminger in 1947.
