FOR
REAL: In common usage, Devin (the most popular spelling for boys in the USA) & Devyn (most common spelling for girls) are actually forms of Devon, an English place name which gets its name from the Dumnonii, a Celtic tribe. Devin is also an Irish surname, usually stemming from the Irish Gaelic name Damhán, meaning "fawn." Though a few baby name books list it as such, Devin is actually unrelated to the Irish word meaning "poet." Devin's popularity as a name may come from the fact that it resembles names like Evan and Kevin. In 2013, it was at #145 in the USA for boys, and #544 for girls. |
