Gavin

Name Nerds main

FOR REAL: Gavin is a Scottish form of the Welsh name Gwalchmai, via the French form Gauvain, and possibly through the English form, Gawain. Gwalchmai was the name of one of the legendary King Arthur's knights, and its meaning is disputed. The first element, gwalch, means "hawk," and was commonly used to describe warriors. The second element, mai, is more problematic. It may mean 'May', 'fierce', 'from the plains,' 'pure,' or 'light.' In 2014, Gavin was at #37 for boys in the US top 7000.
