Joan

Name Nerds main

FOR REAL: Joan is a medieval English feminine form of Johanne, a French form of Ioannes, the Latin form of the name from which we get John. Joan was used extensively as the primary feminine form of John until the 17th century when Jane took over in popularity. Joan gradually declined in use until 1922 when St. Jeanne d'Arc (known in English as Joan of Arc) was canonized and the name enjoyed massive popularity again.
