FOR REAL: Molly was originally a pet form of Mary, though now it is used on its own. When the Normans invaded England in 1066, they brought with them many new language sounds that the native population had trouble pronouncing. "R" was one of these, thus Mary's short form became Mall/Moll and then Mally/Molly. Molly is often associated with Ireland, though it is not a native Irish name. | |||||
