FOR
REAL: Nora, in English usage
is a short form of the Irish name Onóra. This is the Irish
form of the Latin name Honora, meaning "honor." It can
also be a short form of the unrelated name Eleanora. In other languages,
Nora can be derived from a Greek or Arabic word meaning "light." The silent 'h' on the end of Norah got added sometime probably in the 1800s in a misguided attempt to make the name look biblical. |
