| FOR REAL: form of the Latin name Patricius, which means "nobleman." Its most famous bearer was St. Patrick, a 5th century Romanized Briton who is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland (as well as driving all the snakes off the island). His biography in Latin records his name as Patricius Magonus Sucatus, but in keeping with historic recording methods, this may actually represent a Latinized version of a Celtic name. Magonus Sucatus has been speculated as being a form of Maewyn Sucat, Patricius may have also been a name he picked for himself. | |||||
