Popularity Lists
Unlike other name popularity lists, we group names by spelling and count overall popularity that way. I think it gives a more accurate picture of a name's popularity. For example, the name Brianna at #22 for 2007, with Briana being #120, Breanna at #138, & Bryanna #448. You'd think that a name pronounced /bree-anna/ wasn't terribly popular, right? However, when you put all the spellings together, the name ranks at #11, 11 points higher than the highest ranking spelling alone. Sure, a Brianna may be quite different from a Breana, but when yelling the name across a crowded playground, a Breana, Briana, Bryanna etc. will all come running if you yell BRIANNA!
